328. Om kalalapayai namah: I bow down to Amma who speaks musically and sweetly
Many moons ago I had written about Amma's voice. I have never heard that kind of a voice ever. It's special and very specific to Amma. It's a kind of voice that you could never confuse with anyone else's. Amma's voice is laced with Love. There is no judging us or even holding us responsible for our bad times. Amma prays for all of us and loves each of us unconditionally. Today I was thinking of some of the horrid things Amma's detractors have said about Her. It's so laughable. And petty. Amma has changed the thinking of millions of people. She's added such a valuable thread of spirituality in our lives. She's made us start and end our day with prayer. She's made religion not about worshipping anything or anybody (including Her!) but about being righteous and good. She's made faith not about making deals with God but about unconditionally letting go. She's made spirituality not about holding God responsible but about having faith in ourselves and in a higher being. How beautiful is it that when we go for a mantra to Amma, She never insists on giving us only a mantra with Her name on it. It is a mantra pertaining to our ishta devata. The frenzy we see around Amma isn't created by Her. Amma never propagates Herself. It is the frenzy we create. When we bow down in reverence, we aren't doing it because Amma has ordered us to. We are doing it because we are surrendering our ego to Amma. We are happy to do it. So here are my humble two cents to all Her detractors: Amma isn't a "Godwoman". She's a GURU. She's there to show us the path ahead. She has never asked us to bow and scrape in front of Her. Amma has NEVER claimed to be God. She prays TO God. It is we who have given Her a Godly status in our lives - and it works for us! She only wants to hug us with Her unconditional love. No one is obligated to get a hug. There are no rules when it comes to Amma. There is only purity and kindness. And of course, a miracle of the universe!
Om Amriteswariye namah!
