Realizing ourselves through the divine mother!

128. Om sadhvyai namah: I bow down to Amma who is chaste

The explanation of this mantra is beautiful: "Sarasvati, Brahma's wife, yields to all learned men. Laksmi, the goddess of wealth and Visnu's wife, is always on the move and accessible to all. But devi, Mahesvara's wife, yields to no one. She who is parasakti is also absolutely free. The implication is that learning and wealth can be achieved by anyone with effort, but Self-Realization is extremely difficult." (From: The Thousand Names of the Divine Mother. With commentary by T.V Narayana Menon)

Self realization is a concept I find difficult to grasp. How does one realize the self? To do that, and I may well be wrong here, one has to look at the self from the outside. To look on as an onlooker, a witness. Because then we can see ourselves for what we truly are. And that is when we can introspect and look within. And discover our true nature. Realizing ourselves while being involved on a physical and material level is extremely difficult. We can only realize ourselves when we examine ourselves from within and see each blemish for what it is. The best way to realize ourselves is through Amma. Examine what will help us grow for the greater good because each of us is connected to each other. And eventually each of our actions affects everything around us. We do good and the good will come back to us ten fold. That is Amma, right there! Chaste. Pure. Loving. Her only concern is how much love to envelop us with! Her purity is untouchable. And while we can't reach Amma's level, we can emulate in our own small way.

Help me Amma. Help me realize that whatever path You are creating for me today, is for my own good. That each step IS a step in the right direction. That everything that happens is because You have willed for it to happen, for my own spiritual journey. Hopefully one day I will understand Your intentions. But for today I am still an unlearned child. Please help me Amma. Hold my hands through this difficult journey. Today and always.

Om Amriteswariye namah!
