120. Om bhakti vasyayai namah: I bow down to Amma who is to be won over by devotion
Amma can be won over by devotion. And this is not to mean devotion to Her. But devotion to a higher cause. To goodness. To kindness. To helping others. I find Amma the best of the teachers of the world. She may not teach history but She teaches how the past is best left behind to live in the present. She doesn't teach chemistry but we will learn that love is the most potent solution of all. She may not teach drawing but She definitely teaches the art of living life correctly. She may not teach maths but for Her, the perfect equation is when prayer dominates a family. Her english may falter but when She whispers, "My child", do we need to know the language any better? Hasn't She conveyed love and understanding so beautifully in that miraculous embrace? She may be no doctor but She can cure better than any learned doctor can.
All we need to do is walk Her bridge of faith with utter devotion. I doubt if even Amma would advocate sitting in front of the altar for a large part of the day praying? What use is prayer if all we are going to do is get away from the altar and tarnish our minds with vices and petty thoughts?! Devotion is much better expressed by doing good to everyone around us. By enriching the lives of people around us. That is when we will truly show that we have learnt and imbibed every lesson Amma has worked to teach us.
For a Goddess who has sacrificed every hour of Her life into enriching ours, it's the one act we absolutely must follow. Here's to goodness, all around!
