102. Om visnu granthi vibhedinyai namah: I bow down to Amma who breaks through the knot of Vishnu
I bow down to Amma who is the all pervading essence of all beings. The ultimate preserver. Who preserves in us everything that is required to be there; everything that totals up to making us decent beings in this world: goodness, kindness, compassion.
We waste so much energy in a day on negativities. In our twenty four hours, how much we waste on vices and bad thoughts about others. Even perhaps about ourselves. We waste so much time on thinking impure thoughts about the next person instead of working on ways to better ourselves. And we're each of us guilty of this. We'd rather spend five minutes berating the driver in front of us than allowing him five minutes to cross our lane! We'd rather honk at the slow traffic than see it as an opportunity to say our prayers! We'd rather cuss and gossip about someone who's irritating our senses at that point than think of the goodness that may exist in that person! We'd rather say "so what?" than say "sorry!"
Amma spends every bit of Her time cleansing our spiritual paths and tirelessly hugging us. Imagine if Amma stopped hugging and began gossiping about the people around Her! Unimaginable, isn't it? So if Amma can only see the goodness in everyone around Her, why can't we? Why does negativity become such an easy path for us to take? Why is "being good" so difficult? Why can't we just follow Amma's teachings? They're so simple, really. Be kind, be compassionate, be mindful of others. Don't hurt anyone. We can spend inordinate amounts of time and money at temples circumambulating around the deity but we wouldn't hesitate to walk out and fall right back into our time honored vices! I have to really check myself several times a day! Which is exactly why Amma tells us to keep chanting our mantras, so that the idle mind is kept away from cynical and nugatory thoughts.
In Amma, lies every answer. In Her, lies the key to life's many mazes. And in Her, lies the ultimate truth: believing in Her will help preserve everything sacred in us.
