A lifeline in a thought!

97. Om samayantasthayai namah: I bow down to Amma who resides inside samaya (mental worship)

I love this mantra. For me it pertains to something I prefer when I worship Amma. Mental worship. A time I am able to quietly walk with myself and connect to Amma. I have never been able to reach out to divinity whilst in the middle of ceremonies. It's so easy to hear the prayers or recite them mechanically but mental worship is a state of mind. It's a tough task to actually get your mind to stop meandering as is its nature and concentrate on a one pointed meditation of Amma. I find this very challenging but I also feel it's the best form of prayer. To be able to put aside everything that seems of utmost importance and to actually concentrate solely on the giver of happiness....Amma, our Universal mother and the beloved of millions!

Sometimes I find that the meditation does not even have to be an "aum" variety. Even if I am able to occupy my mind with varied thoughts centered around Amma, that must be a mental worship in itself. I hope so! Because there are many a times I find my mind walking off to joyfully think about Amma. It casts aside all the many important issues at hand to sit somewhere or even talk to a friend about Amma. So much better than gossiping which inadvertently leads to badmouthing people. How much nicer if we're able to talk about Amma: Her miracles, Her amazing ways.

Amma, when I'm weary, tired or just upset, please help me take my mind away from these negative thoughts. Throw me a lifeline. Make me occupy my mind with thoughts about You. Allow me the opportunity to only think about You. Even this, incidentally, can only happen by Amma's grace. Once this becomes second nature, I will never allow negativity to stake a claim to my life.

Om Amriteswariye namah!
