447. Om santyai namah: I bow down to Amma who is tranquility itself
I had a most interesting conversation with a dear friend. Very spiritually inclined and a Krishna devotee, I asked her why we go through things despite never having any intention of harming anyone. Why do bad things happen to us? I know Amma has given us the answer of "coming into this world with a debit account" but I wanted a lay person's view point. She asked me how come I had never questioned Amma when so many wonderful things happened in my life? Why was I raising questions about certain bad things that had happened? Why was I not questioning Amma about the creativity present in my life? She made me think. Amma's emissary, I'm guessing! It's incredible that we actually never question Amma about all the positives or the sattvic moments in our life, if I may use the word, as my friend had so aptly done. We take such positive moments for granted and carry on with our lives. But the minute something bad happens, we so easily forget God, forget our Guru. We forget that we are wearing their 'suraksha-kavachch'. We toss aside all thoughts of our Guru and we focus wholeheartedly on the bad happening to us. How unfair it is on our Guru! How unfair we are being to the Guru, to Amma who is the very model of tranquility, who cares and who knows exactly what is required for our spiritual growth. I pray to You Amma, to give me the clarity of thought to realise this. And as my friend suggested, to develop patience, empathy and acceptance in all situations!
Om Amriteswariye namah!
