523. Om sad-ananayai namah: I bow down to Amma who has six
faces
I have often wondered about the concept of selfishness. We
deem it unworthy but in a deeper sense it means looking out for ourselves
first. Which I remember Amma advising us a while ago. About first ensuring that
we love ourselves. Much like how stewards advise us to first put on our own
oxygen mask before attending to others. And the whole concept takes further
shape as when we love ourselves, we have the ability to love others. Only when
we are comfortable in our own self can we then reach out to others. When we
harm or loathe ourselves, we can never, ever do good to anyone else. Amma
advices us to even treat our body like a temple. It is the only way we can,
with the correct decorum, seat Amma there. When we realise thatAmma lives
within us, we will learn to love ourselves. Amma says that we all have God
within us. Godliness. A form of cleanliness of mind and spirit. And just as we
pay so much attention to the altar where we seat our Gods, so also must we pay
attention to cleaning up our inner self wherein Amma resides.
Om Amriteswariye namah!
