540. Om smrtyai namah: I bow down to Amma who is in the form of smrti
With all the debate raging all over the world, I ask myself: what is religion? Is it a collection of beliefs? Is it a collection of people who have shared beliefs? Is it a collective belief in a higher power? I try and think back on my own life before i met Amma. Religion meant being a hindu. A temple. Lamps. Prayers. Idols. Altar. Beliefs. Rituals. Fear. Punishing God. No beef. My friends were christians and to me, their religion meant church. Cakes. Beef. Fancy weddings. After I met Amma, my focus of religion changed. Lamps, Prayers, Love, Compassion, Kindness, Forgiveness, Source of all answers, Meditation, Ultimate Power, Protection, Security, Happiness, Devotion, Shiva, Krishna, Sahasranamavali. Peace.
That's possibly what religion is actually meant to make us feel. And I find it in Amma. And so, my religion is definitely: AMMA.
Om Amriteswariye namah!
