Mu Guru, My Goddess, My Mother!

496. Om vadana-traya-samyutayai namah: I bow down to Amma who has three faces

The Guru. The Goddess. The Mother. Even while placing it, I wonder what order to write it in. Does the Goddess come first because it traditionally means the mysterious power of the universe? Or should I write Mother first as it reflects the loving nature of Amma? I settle on Guru because the word manifests everything Amma stands for. She's our daily Guide who teaches us on how to best live life. She's the Master who teaches us a daily lesson on unquestioning faith. She's the ultimate teacher who gives us life lessons about how we and only we can be held responsible and thus accountable for everything that happens in our lives. As a Guru, Amma plays Her strongest part in our lives, gently correcting and carefully nudging us onto the right path. Through our many journeys, the only constant is really Amma, with the three faces. Depending on our mental state and where we stand on the spirituality chart, we are the ones who chose which face to companion with for the day. Some days, I need an all powerful Goddess who will completely take over the reins of my life and steer me on from the depths of despair. Some days, I need the loving hand of the Guru to help choose, decide and then walk on a path I know She has etched out for me. Some days all I am looking for is the Mother who will indulge in my rantings about the injustices of life.
As a disciple, child and devotee, what more could we ask for?
Om Amriteswariye namah!
